DIVISION

Division is an abomination to God, but unity is like the anointing oil.

I had a spirit of division in me. It was infecting my marriage, friendships, family members, church, and my health. I divided with my tongue and heart through hatred, slander, criticalness, condemnation, gossip, anger, bitterness, deceit, accusations, self-righteousness, and pride.
God said, “No more division Beth.” He became the cleansing fire to my heart in order to break this spirit in me. It was hell-bent in destroying me and everything that I loved.
The Teacher desires us to be meek and teachable so that He may show us where we are dividing with our hearts and our tongues.
As soon as we criticize or accuse another of their sin, we become a divider in the eyes of God. And one who is just as guilty of sin as the one at whom our fingers point.
And God is saying, “NO MORE DIVISION! KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT and look at your own sin and repent.”
When we divide with our hearts and our tongues, then WE are RESPONSIBLE to God for the division of families, churches, businesses, races, cities, nations, tribes, and groups. We are cultivating a spirit of strife and conflict. Peace is nowhere to be found and this is what God hates.
Remember, as soon as we tear someone down, then we are a divider…guilty of sin before Christ. We are causing dissension instead of unity.
But when we say NO MORE DIVISION in tongue and heart, THEN we will bring life, healing, and unity to the people. THIS is what God loves!!

There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him. A false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.

Proverbs 6:16 and 19

Life and death are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

DIVISION WITH MEN AND WOMEN

In Genesis, both Adam and Eve received the curses of division. They divided the Word of God by being wise in their own eyes.
Eve received multiple curses from God: pain in birth, desire to power over Adam, Adam would power over her and division from God.
Adam's curses of division were division from the ground, relational division with Eve, and division from God's presence. He further received physical division from Eve because now he had to go to work in the fields!

When we look at the verse below, the word desire means "power" or "above."

To the women He said, “I will make your pains in childbearing very severe; with painful labor you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.”.

To Adam he said, “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground since from it you were taken.

EVE
Let me just say, if it wouldn’t have been Eve, it would have been me. For I have been just as guilty of disobeying God’s commands. LORD have mercy!
Pain is the woman's curse.
Wives will strive to power over their husbands.
And their husbands will rule over them.
This does not promote peace and unity.
It is a curse of strife, division, and conflict.
Because that’s what Eve chose.
She chose to be divided from God by disobeying. She chose death.
Through the ages and even through the Bible, we see Eve's curse played out - women striving to power over men and men ruling over women. So, women, we can blame the men all we want, but this was Eve’s choice – a curse passed down to Eve’s daughters. And now it is our choice to divide or say no more.

ADAM
The “Adam will rule over Eve curse” has caused much pain for women through the centuries and women have been trying to climb out from underneath this oppression. But it is difficult to overcome without causing more division. And that’s the problem we have today. Adam has a part to play in this curse as well. If he "rules over" the woman, he embraces the curse, but if he leads her, he embraces life.

All these curses create a power struggle - a chasm between the sexes.
That one piece of fruit drove a wedge between man and God, then Adam and Eve, which later divided their own sons to the point of death, and the rest is history.

SIN CAUSES THE CURSE

The ONLY thing that causes that power struggle is SIN.
Sin birthed the curse and sin keeps the curse alive.
Sin birthed the division and sin feeds the division.

This curse breeds divorce, court battles, wars, strife, jealousy, greed, pride, self-righteousness, arrogance, anger, hatred, abuse, violence, murder, adultery, immorality, lust, and chaotic relationships. And we will pass it all down to our children, just like Adam and Eve.

JESUS BROKE THE CURSES OF DIVISION

But there is One who has come to break these curses and restore the division and bring unity. And as we - male and female submit to the Restorer Jesus Christ, He will bring balance and equality. Women want equality, but we can’t have true life-giving equality without Christ.
Without Jesus, we WILL try to “power over” and “rule over” each other.
But Jesus came to heal the division. It is through His Righteous Blood that we are unified.

What God created was perfect unity between man and woman, but now it is the curse that births division...the striving for power.
But Jesus broke this curse at the cross. And when we fully know and love Jesus, He breaks that curse in us to overpower another.

MARRIAGE
We see the spirit of division so prevalent and destructive in marriages.
Sin causes the struggle, but Jesus demolishes it.
When my husband and I were having marital strife, there was definitely a power battle, a clear division. But after crying out for the Holy Spirit, He broke the sin in my heart that was cursing our marriage. And the power struggle vanished. It wants to raise its ugly head from time to time, but I see it by the grace of God, repent and declare Jesus’ Blood over me. My desire to power over my husband was caused from sin in my heart - bitterness, anger, criticalness, hatred, pride, un-forgiveness, selfishness, and self-righteousness.

Women, if we tear down our houses, so will the generations after us. Note in this verse, it is the woman who holds the power with her own hands to tear down her house or build it up.
With Eve's own hands, she tore down her house. With my own hands, I tore down my house. But because of Jesus’ wisdom, we can build our houses in peace, build up our men in peace, our families, and our nations.
No more curse, no more division.

A wise woman builds her house, but a foolish one tears it down with her own hands.

Proverbs 14:1

The healing of this “battle of the sexes” begins with women, because the curse was given to Eve.
To break this curse of division, wives must first take ownership of the sin in their own hearts. It is our responsibility TO our husbands. Eve birthed the curse, and we must break it through the Blood and Righteousness of Jesus. And it begins with our own heart, not our husband’s. Owning our crap of bitterness, un-forgiveness, hatred, condemnation, argumentativeness, slander, criticalness, complaining, rebellion, disdain, pride, sexual immorality, lust, harshness, impatience, strife, and self-righteousness, leads us to repentance, confession to others and forgiveness from Jesus.
However, because the husband is under Christ, He is the headship of Christ in the family. This does not mean he “rules over in dominance;” he leads as a representative of Jesus. As wives, we submit to this headship in respect and honor as God has ordained through His Son Jesus.
I believe the origins of this order came from creation - woman was taken out of man’s flesh to be his helper.

Wives submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the LORD. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body of which he is the Savior.

Ephesians 5:23

The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”

Genesis 2:18

LORD knows I have not been my husband’s helper, but a thorn in his side; many times he probably wished he were alone!
Only through the Righteous Blood of Jesus can I be what he needs.

HEALING THE DIVISION
Today there is a great divide in nations, races, parties, churches, relationships, and families. The same truth applies to all.
When we let Jesus continually clean the sin from our OWN heart, there is no more curse of division over us and no more desire to divide with our heart or our tongue. We cease to point the finger, blame, accuse, and criticize by the Righteousness of Jesus. And unity is birthed. So the greatest gift we could give one another, to heal this divide, is a pure heart before Christ; a meek, teachable and repentful heart.
Even though we are the offspring of Adam and Eve, let the curse of division first be broken in each one of us. May we come to the foot of the cross and humbled before God and say, "No more division!" But no more division begins with me. Then, we shall repent and confess our sin and make things right before Christ and men only because of the precious Blood of Jesus, which breaks the curse of division!!

When Jesus broke this curse of division at the cross, He was basically saying, "Through Me, women will no longer strive to have power over men and men will no longer strive to “rule” over women. Neither will you desire to dominate or divide. At the cross all are one, we are all sinners saved by grace. At the cross, there will be PEACE and UNITY...no more division!

For division tears down the house and the strong man can plunder, but the Blood of Jesus which gives life and unity, divides the strong man and HIS house is plundered. So may we cry out to Jesus, "No more division and may it begin with me."

So, in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand; his end has come. In fact, no one can enter a strong man’s house without first tying him up. Then he can plunder the strong man’s house.
